I am an Assistant Professor of Management at San Francisco State University where I teach a variety of management courses, serve as Director of the SFSU Family Enterprise Center, and conduct related research.

TEACHING: My teaching at SFSU encompasses undergraduate, MBA, and Executive education. Although I primariy teach Strategic Management; I also teach courses in Family Business, Entrepreneurship, Management of Technology & Innovation, and Business Negotiations. In addition, I supervise MBA graduate theses and independent research projects.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: My service work spans the local, national, and international marketplace, including both the business and academic communities. I am the founder and Executive Director of the SFSU Family Enterprise Center; and currently serve as Program Chair of the Research & Education segment, member of the local arrangements committee, and member of the program committee of the 2006 Family Firm Institute Conference. In addition, I am a member of the College BIE grant team; a member of the advisory board for the PSED2 initiative (Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics); and currently serving as the Chair of the College Junior Faculty Research Consortium, Representative at large of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Strategic Management Society, and Program Chair Elect of USASBE's Technology Entrepreneurship Division.

  • Executive Director, Family Enterprise Center ...as Founder and Executive Director of the SFSU Family Enterprise Center, I am responsible for managing personnel, fundraising, strategic planning, accounting and reporting, and community relations. In addition, I design, manage, and deliver a variety of programs, workshops, and retreats to help local, national and international family businesses achieve & maintain family harmony, manage & transfer wealth, and develop a designed legacy.
  • 2006 Family Firm Institure Conference ...as Program Chair of the 2006 Research & Education segment of the conference, I manage the review process, design the program, and arrange keynote speakers. As a member of the local arrangmenets committee I participate in fundraising and decisons regarding overall logistics. As a member of the program committee I reviewed all session proposals, and participated in decisions regarding program themes. program design, and keynote speakers.
  • BIE Grant (2005-2007) ...as a member of the team of College faculty who wrote, submitted, and were awarded a federal research grant, I am responsible for assisting local family wineries better compete in the international marketplace. This includes delivering workshops, desiging and implementing a web site, developing related curricula, and hosting a local conference.
  • Chairperson, JFRC ...the College Junior Faculty Research Consortium was formed to provide a social and research network for untenured business faculty.
  • Management Curriculum Committee ...this committee (Professors Albert, Carr-Ruffino, Dopp, Ericson, and myself) reviewed and restructured the management concentration curriculum.
  • Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics ...the PSED is a large-scale, national study of US entrepreneurship that is will be conducted over a period of four years. As a member of the advosiry board, I participate in design and implementation decisions.
  • SMS ...the Strategic Management Society is the world's premier strategy organization. Over the past decade the field of strategic management has shown an increasing interest in entrepreneurship, primarily as it relates to firm profits and source of competitive advantage. I serve as Representative at Large os SMS's new entrepreneurship division by reviewing related conference submissions and providing other administrative and leadership services.
  • USASBE ...the United States Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship is the leading US organization focused on entrepreneurship. As Program Chair-elect of USASBE's Technology Entrepreneurhsip Division I work with the current chairperson who is responsible for all Division activities at the January 2007 conference in Orlando, Florida. I will become Division Program Chair for the 2008 conference.
  • Career Workshops ...I conduct several Career Planning workshops for College of Business students throughout the year. These workshops are free of charge to students, and focus on unique strategies to identify, pursue, and realize optimal career opportunities.
