Calendar of Family Business & Wine-Related Conferences

  • Terroir 2006: A Dialogue Between Earth Scientists and Winemakers (March 19-23, 2006: Davis, California) ... This conference explores how aspects of terroir can be studied scientifically in ways that are of use to the wine industry. The conference is conceived as a dialogue between individuals who do research on aspects of terroir, and grape growers and winemakers who can make use of the insights gained from that research.

  • West Coast Wine Competition (April 19-21, 2006: Santa Rosa) ... this traditional wine competition recognizes, awards, and promotes outstanding West Coast wines. The competition has grown to become one of our industry’s most prestigious judgings, typically awarding 70% of eligible entrants. Judges include noteworthy winemakers, wine educators, wine media, wine/vineyard researchers, and wine marketers.

  • Oregon State University Family Business Conference (May 9-10, 2006: Corvallis, Oregon) ... the Austin Family Business Center invites you to bring the entire family for one and a half days packed with intensive learning sessions, one-on-one meetings with family business experts, and interactive panel discussions that will increase the power and effectiveness of your family business.

  • Forbes Family Business Forum (May 17-18, 2006: New York) ... Forbes Magazine delivers an invitation only, peer-to-peer family forum to address key family business issues. The theme of this conference is "Blood Lines and Business: Innovation and Wealth, Family Governance, and Philanthropy."

  • 57th American Society for Enology & Viticulture Meeting (June 27-30, 2006: Sacramento) ... is a conference dedicated to the interests of enologists, viticulturists, and others in the fields of wine and grape research and production throughout the world. Attendees include professionals from wineries, vineyards, academic institutions, and organizations.

  • Shanghai International Wine & Spirits Fair (July 5-7, 2006: Shanghai, China)... this conference caters to industry professionals who are involved in trading wines, spirits and other alcoholic beverages, domestically and internationally.

  • 3rd International Wine Business & Marketing Conference (July 6-8, 2006: Montpellier, France)... this conference focuses on social science issues in the wine sector. It is an academic conference organized by and for wine researchers to promote their research.

  • 3rd Annual California Wine Festival (July 22, 2006: Santa Barbara)... one of many ZAP tastings held across the state.

  • 8th Family Business Australia Conference (Aug 31-Sep 2, 2006: Hamilton Island) ... this is designed for Australian Family Businesses, however, it's a great excuse to visit the Great Barrier Reef. The conference theme this year is "Families in Business - Keeping the Dream Alive."

  • 17th FBN Summit (Sept 20-22, 2006: Cannes, France) ... this summit is delivered by families, for families. It is open to members of business families and their non-family executives and board members. The theme if this year's summit is "Building Success on Talent: Attracting the Best Resources to Business Families. Conference program

  • The Families in Business Conference (Oct 12-13, 2006: New York)... Since its launch in 2000, The Families in Business Conference has provided an exclusive forum for owners of family businesses and their senior executives from over 40 countries. They gather to discuss the key issues affecting the family business of today. The conference is neither publicly marketed nor reported afterwards and the press is not admitted.This year the conference theme is: Innovation and Entrepreneurship – strategies for long-term business success.

  • FFI 2006 Wine Pre-Conference (Oct 25, 2006: Sonoma, California)... this conference is co-sponsored by the SFSU Family Winery Forum and FFI. It is a half-day conference held in Sonoma for family winery owners and managers, family winery researchers, and family winery advisors .


  • 30th South African Society for Enology & Viticulture (Nov 15-17, 2006: Somerset-West, South Africa)... This is primarily a South African conference, however, global participants are welcome. The official language of the ocnference is English.

  • Unified Wine & Grape Symposium (Jan 23-25, 2007: Sacramento, California)... combines a trade show with a broad spectrum of seminars - providing attendees direct access to all the latest information — everything from the newest packaging ideas to the latest developments in the battle against the vine mealybug. The Symposium also provides an excellent forum for active networking between registrants and suppliers.

  • 16th Annual ZAP Festival (Jan 24-27, 2007: San Francisco)... Zap holds its annual Zinfandel festival and tasting at Fort Mason.

  • 9th Annual Family Business Forum (May 7-10, 2007: Cannes, France)... this is a premier event for prominent members of family businesses to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the developments in the Middle East and the onslaught of globalization.

  • Kellogg 2007 Family Business Invitational Conference (May 15-16, 2007: Evanston, Illinois)... is that explores best practices and new ideas for successful family businesses and features presentations, panel discussions and networking opportunities.

  • IFERA 2007 Family Business Conference (June 21-23, 2007: Oestrich-Winkel, Germany)... is a gathering of family business researchers from around the world at the European Business School!

  • Family Winemakers of California Tastings (Aug 20-21, 2006: San Francisco) ... THis is a great event - the largest tasting of California wines in the world. Sunday is open to the public and trade, while Monday is reserved for trade only..
